New! Vacancy for Learning Mentor

 

Job Description 

All Things SEN is seeking an enthusiastic, creative and flexible mentor to join the existing team at our site (The Quay) by Sharpness Dock.  

Full time, fixed term to the end of the academic year (July 2026) with potential for permanent role.  

Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday, Gloucestershire term time only. Every second Monday, time in lieu.  

Salary: £23,100 – £26,000 p/a (actual salary) – 6.6 weeks unpaid 

This job role is not eligible for a sponsorship.

Summary 

All Things SEN is an Alternative Learning Provision which brings expert knowledge and the very highest expectations of progress to children and young adults (5-17) with SEN who are struggling to access full time education. Offering bespoke learning approaches, a wide variety of arts and crafts activities, independence and social skills opportunities and therapeutic exercises, we seek to ignite a love of learning as well as address deeper seated issues that might have otherwise slipped under the radar. Groups are small and the high staff ratio reflects the complexity of need; however, the purpose is always to improve levels of independence, raise self-esteem, and bridge those gaps where social skills are lacking. We pride ourselves on being the very best at what we do.  

Qualities and Skills Required 

• Experience supporting children and/or young people with SEN or behaviour needs (essential). 

  • A clean UK driving license (essential)  
  • Competency in English and Maths to GCSE grade C (level 4) minimum 
  • Experience working in an educational/classroom setting (preferable). 
  • A positive, energetic, and patient attitude.  
  • Openness to learning new approaches and following guidance 
  • Strong communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work well as part of a team. 
  • A genuine desire to change childrens’ lives for the better. 

Responsibilities 

  • Under guidance from Lead Tutor and/or Joint Directors, plan and lead activities/sessions either 1-1 or for small groups of children  
  • Support learners with additional needs (such as autism, ADHD, or SEMH), 1-1 or in small groups, to engage positively with learning 
  • Model positivity and high moral standards in relation to learning and social interactions  
  • Use physical activities, movement, arts and crafts to support sensory needs, self-regulation and bodily coordination 
  • Work closely with our Lead Tutor and Joint Directors to maintain the All Things SEN ethos and approach to learning   
  • Be active in maintaining the site. This includes elements of cleaning and outdoors maintenance   
  • Be active in kitchen duties, including food preparation  
  • Encourage confidence, respect, and an active, healthy mindset throughout the school day. 
  • Candidates will be subject to a DBS check at enhanced level, must have access to a car during working hours and hold a full UK driving license.

All Things SEN is committed to Safeguarding therefore we undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with the DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’, which includes obtaining 2 references. References will be requested prior to interview.  

As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory enhanced check by the Disclosure and Barring Service is required.
