Job Description 

All Things SEN is seeking an experienced, resilient, and highly flexible Tutor to join the growing team at our site (The Quay) by Sharpness Dock.  

Permanent full-time contract, 40 hours per week. 

Holiday allowance of 12.6 weeks paid per year.  

Normal working day is from 8.30 am – 4:30 pm, five days per week, unless providing transport for students in which case adaptations will be made to accommodate a 40 hour working week.

Summary 

All Things SEN is an Alternative Learning Provision which brings expert knowledge and the very highest expectations of progress to children and young adults (4-17) with SEN  struggling to access full time education. Offering bespoke learning approaches, a wide variety of arts and crafts activities, independence and social skills opportunities and therapeutic exercises, we seek to ignite a love of learning as well as address deeper seated issues that might have otherwise slipped under the radar. Groups are small and the high staff ratio reflects the complexity of need; however, the purpose is always to improve levels of independence, raise self-esteem, and bridge those gaps where social skills are lacking. We pride ourselves on being the very best at what we do, and our growing reputation in the county supports this.  


Qualities and Skills Required   

  • Experience in school setting working with SEN for a minimum of 2 years 
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status  
  • Competence in English and Maths to  GCSE grade C (level 4) minimum 
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexible and nuanced approach to behaviour management
  • The ability to lead a team and delegate jobs 
  • Experience using alternative communication, e.g. Signalong, PECS, IT skills 
  • Fitness and stamina to face challenges and challenging behaviour 
  • Clean UK driving license 
  • Openness to learning new approaches and following guidance 
  • Strong communication skills, initiative, and the ability to work well as part of a team. 
  • A genuine desire to change children's lives for the better. 


Responsibilities  

  • Devise and deliver a range of educational activities and lessons for individual students or groups of students, including English and Maths, in order to encourage ‘Learning to love Learning’. 
  • Adapt teaching in line with students’ cognitive, emotional and sensory/physical needs with reference to individual EHCP requirements and therapeutic recommendations. 
  • Set individual educational plans (IEPs), assess student outcomes and provide reports where required  
  • Risk assess for individual students, activities and outings 
  • Be responsible for communicating progress and/or issues arising with parents or carers, schools and professionals on a regular basis 
  • Manage and guide a team of mentors to support the delivery of lessons and activities, ensuring they are clear on learning objectives and specified approaches.  
  • Support the delivery of all aspects of The Quay’s curriculum in line with the All Things SEN therapeutic approach and curriculum policies. 
  • Model positivity and high moral standards in relation to learning and social interactions. 
  • Be familiar with: any therapeutic guidance specified for students; educational goals and objectives for students; EHCPs for students; medical issues and required medication for students; updates from the home environment as they pertain to the provision; individual risk assessment for students.  
  • Be active in maintaining the site. This includes some elements of cleaning and outdoors maintenance.  
  • Plan, teach and assess students in line with accredited courses where required 
  • Be active in kitchen duties, including food preparation  
  • Encourage confidence, respect, and an active, healthy mindset throughout the school day. 
  • Candidates will be subject to a DBS check at enhanced level, must have access to a car during working hours and hold a full UK driving license.
